British Passport if you have a conviction!

Post by brooklyn_uk » Tue Feb 19, 2013 5:36 am

I wounder if anyone could help me?
I came to the UK as a child and after a decade on I was given DL after I was given an Article 8 by the Higher Tribunal.

After that the UKBA issued me a 6 Month DL visa and I had to submit a new application before its expiry date which resulted in another 6 Month visa being issued by the UKBA.

Would I ever be eligible for a British Passport? ( bare in mind that I have conviction and I was given a deportation order which was over turned by the higher tribunal and I was given an Article 8 which the UKBA issued me with a DL!

I would appreciate some information.

Many Thanks

It depends with the length of the sentence.

If less that 30 month you will have to wait for certain period. (spent)

If over 30 month for a single crime you will never bbe eligible according to the current rules.

Remember also, for settlement, there is a general refusal time of 15 years (from the end of sentence) for a custodial conviction where the sentence was up to 4 years under immigration rule 322(1C), which is perhaps more worrying for you than citizenship. I assume the sentence wasn't suspended.
