Exciting conferences business and questions about it

Post by sky_rise » Fri Feb 22, 2013 3:02 pm

Hi everybody,

Very informative to read all your discussions here.

I am in the process of forming a company and starting a business that would deal with organising events (conferences, focus groups, discussions, forums). It will not be focused on events management (i.e. catering).

My role will fall under the NQF 4 Conference and exhibition managers. In the future I plan to grow it into the platform for policies debates in specific industry and to develop research unit. But for now - events for the industry.

I am very passionate about the business and the industry that it will serve, so I am striving to do best to breath long life into it. I hope that with your experienced help it might be more successful!

I am planning to apply within 2 months through the PSW--->T1E 50k.

It is all very straightforward to me what to do in general.
However, I spoke to lawyer and he was unable to give me a specific advice on couple of Qs - he never dealt with this type of business for this visa. I would be very thankful if you could share your opinions/knowledge on that:

1. Contract of trading. What sort of contract UKBA will perceive as satisfactory for THIS type of business?

- Is it with corporation for sponsorship (where it is said what benefits sponsor gets from event and what i do for it?)
- Can it be a contract of hiring the venue for event? (company pays for the venue) - would it be sufficient on itself?
- Can it be a contract with the individual (speaker, for example?)
- Can it be an agreement showing partnership between two companies for example? It will state benefits for both etc.

2. Time of the event. Do i have to show that the conference already happened, or it is fine that it is planned and work is under way? It takes time to organise.

If someone could advice I would be very thankful.

Have a great day everyone,

SR

It is a type of contract which confirms that your business has started to trade with your client and revenue will be generated from the payments received from the client. First define who your client is and then make a first deal and sign and contract.

Thank you for reply.

Well, that is why it is not as easy as in other businesses. You organise a conference yourself (from bottom to top), you hire venue, catering company, you sell tickets and you invite speakers.

Hence, payments are received from individuals (ticket sales) and from companies (sponsorships).

It is not very clear what will satisfy the UKBA, that is the issue.

So, clients are BOTH corporates and individuals. So the questions arise.

Logically thinking, hiring a venue and showing the contract for that may also satisfy? Just like other options.
