There has nothing been said about the new form at the moment. But when it comes to UKBA, you can just never say anything. Hard to predict

Point to be noted- UKBA will start to charge £100 for booking an appointment at PEO. Gone will be the days where one can just create and account and start booking appointments.

Correct.
It is good that there is a fee for booking an appointment, only people who are seriously looking to book an appointment will now book. Hence more appointments will be readily available.

agree .... if one can pay 1377 they can pay 100 in addition as well.
this 100 will be 150 or 200 in 2014 .... and people can easily pay..... they are very clever they will check how it goes and people do like to book with 100 so they will increase. .....i hope they will put some restrictions that if your application is not served for any reason money will be refunded in 4 weeks time or so

Is there anything mentioned on how appointments can be booked (phone, online etc...) when these changes come into effect? Or is it just a fee hike, where there is an upfront payment of £100 at the time an applicant makes the online booking?
I noticed the following comment: For applications made in person (e.g. at a public enquiry office) the total fee is the relevant standard fee plus £375 per person (this includes the £100 appointment fee, which may be retained should the applicant fail to attend their appointment without good reason).

No other details have come out yet. I believe there will be an upfront fee at the time of booking online of £100 which will be adjusted to the proposed new fees when one goes to attend an appointment. If someone fails to attend within good reason, they will lose the fee of £100

IMO this seems like a better way to go about it. Means that people will stop booking appointments at several different PEO's at a time and then deciding what one to go to.
Should mean that its easier to get an appointment!.

Absolutely very clever and best way to move forward. Will certainly help those applicants who genuinely want to book. Hence getting first priority appointments will be easy to book

I know that when I went about booking my appointment it took me 2 nights to get an appointment.
The UKBA will always charge more for the same day service. Just makes sense to have £100 taken out at first stage.
However I do worry about their whole website when the appointments are released. The UKBA can't seem to handle just the booking side of things, let alone that + payment.

Agree. Submitting payment details on the flaky booking system they currently have, is not something I would look forward to! The concept however is a logical one, which I'd agree with, so long as they have a reliable and effective booking process/system to support it.

Knowing the UKBA. I'm sure it will be sorted out just after they change it again!

It is around 42% increase for people with dependants!!! Though they mentioned that it is due to inflation(Retail Price Index is 3.3%). I don't think anybody will object this increase.

I agree with you cs95tdg however, it is a brilliant move by UKBA atleast it will put off a few people who have made appointment booking a business.
Thanks!

As I read it the £100 booking fee is not in addition but is part of the £375 application in person fee. Correct me if I am wrong!
If the car breaks down or the train is late then you could lose £100.
I presume you can still book multiple appointments if you wish but then cancel so it may not prevent the speculative bookings.

I read it to mean 375+ application fee. However £100 of that will be deducted at time of booking. Therefore on the day you will have to pay 275+application fee.
I understood this whole thing was stop multiple bookings!

Yes, that's what I understood when I read the published information as well. I.e. you would forfeit the £100 booking fee if you don't turn up for the appointment. Technically this appointment booking fee alone will not stop people from making multiple speculative bookings unless it comes with a system change as well. People may however be relunctant to spend £100 upfront on multiple speculative bookings, so that £100 appointment reservation fee may be considered a deterrent.

You're right that it's part of the PEO fee. You won't be able to book multiple appointments as you'll have to make payment at the time of booking. In the research for the recent BBC Radio programme the Home Office were intending to block any multiple bookings on the system as this is against the official Regulations. If you continue to multiple book, you may well find yourself without any appointment at all.
This is to prevent selling-on of appointments and 'hoarding' of slots while you make your mind up which one you prefer.

That's certainly good news. Without system restrictions to stop multiple bookings, there would invariably be those who would still do this & get/sell appointments, if it were just left at introducing an application booking fee, with no system restrictions. It appears that things are now moving in the right direction by introducing IT system procedures to stop those violating the rules.
