WRSA no citizenship?

Post by Emi111 » Tue Feb 26, 2013 2:31 pm

Hello,

Can i just confirm that after living and working in the UK for the past 8 years I don't need Working Registration Scheme Certificate when applying for British Citizenship? I've worked here since 2005 however never registered for WRS. The whole system was abolished in April 2011 however the AN form ask for the registration number but the UKBA stopped accepting the application forms. It's really confusing as I'm not sure whether I'm still eligible for the citizenship..

if you are from a8 country and did't register for wrs you can start counting for naturalization from may 2011

Are you employed or self employed? Self employed were exempted from WRS. If employed, then you should have followed the rules. If you didn't register, as said, your 5 years count started when WRS was abolished.

No, not self - employed. I've passed the Life in the UK tests, got all of my paperwork together and this has come up.....none of my previous/current employers have ever asked for the registration. My fault for not doing the research properly I guess. So frustrating.

it was worker responsibility to send for registration certificate in 30 days. You could try applying for eea3 first, and if they grant this you could try for naturalization using the same evidence. But you will be risking the fee.
