My wife is a British citizen I am on a spouse visa we are in the uk, we want to travel to Spain for 11 days would I require a schengen visa if we travel together.

By EU law there is no requirement that you must have travel insurance, as spouse of an EU citizen traveling under EU directive 2004/38/EC

You apply for the visa as spouse of EU citizen.
Firstly, the visa is free.
All that is supposed to be asked for are both passports, and marriage cert, However the Schengen Visa code has added ticket reservations.

I have not checked the Spanish Embassy website for what they are looking for. But by the Schengen Visa code, for EU family spouse the above is suppose to be the limit. Besides photos of course

It's says tht under directive 2004/38/EC and according to real decreto 240/2007, 16 February, family members of an EU/EEA national in possession of a valid UK residence card specifying its condition as a family member do not require a visa to enter Spain when travelling with the EU/EEA national or joining him/ her in Spain.

I'm bit confused with this now

You don't have a residence card, which would be issued to family members of eu nationals under directive 2004/38/ec so will need a visa. Dir 2004/38/ec still applies to you and you should be issued with a free visa on application.
