I am a US citizen, still waiting for my FLR(M) (36 weeks) and I had thought that I'd get it by now and booked travel to my sister's wedding in the US months ago. I've spoken to the US embassy about emergency passports and they've replied saying while it's possible, that I need to speak to the Border Agency about whether or not it will affect my current application if I return on the emergency passport. I used to be able to contact an actual human through the phone contact line as my application is outstanding but now it has a message saying that all the operators are busy, regardless of when I call 9-5, five days a week.
Here's the email I've had from the embassy:
"If your current U.S. passport is being held at the Home Office and you have urgent need of travel, we can issue you with an emergency temporary passport if you are able to present the following:
The letter from the Home Office stating that they have received and are processing your application;
A printed copy of your travel itinerary showing that you have confirmed booked travel within 36 hours;
Current, valid, government issued photo ID (such as a Driver’s license or a passport of another nationality); and
A copy of your current passport, any previous issued passports or your birth certificate.
As the temporary passport will not have any UK visas, you must contact the UK Home Office to find out if you can depart the United Kingdom whilst the visa application is being processed without forfeiting the application and, if so, what documentation you need to take with you to legally return to the United Kingdom. "
Does anyone have any previous experience with emergency passports and outstanding applications?
Thanks,
Nathaniel
