British Citizen by Descent?

Post by luckylucy » Fri Mar 15, 2013 8:15 am

Hi there! My dad was born in the UK in August 1954. I am not sure if there are any official records of his citizenship besides his birth certificate since he passed away in 2011. I was born in America in July 1992 and he was married to my mother at the time. Since I plan to work in the UK and Europe in the future, I was wondering if I have any claim to registration as a citizen by descent, and if so, which documents and forms I will need for my application.

Simple advice from other citizens by descent is also welcome. Thanks! :)

If a parent was British otherwise than by descent (e.g born in the UK) when his/her children were born, then the children are automatically British by descent (2(1)(a)).

Thanks, Vinny! That's what I want to hear! But how do I go about applying for a passport then?
