Advice on Residence stay for Naturalization

Post by rashid123 » Sat Mar 16, 2013 8:37 am

I got ILR status on 22nd Feb 2013 on the basis of 5 years HSMP visa. But my total legal continuous stay in uk is 9 years. I was student in the uk before HSMP visa. I came in UK in 2004 and got HSMP in April 2007, so my 5 years comleted on April 2012, but UKBA issue late visa now in march 2013. So in this case i spent almost 6 years on hsmp. But for british citizenship required stay is 6 years(5 years + after ILR 1 year) , So in my case my stay is already is more than 6 years in uk. My question is that can I apply now for citizenship or i have to wait 1 year to complete after my ILR status, which will be 21st Feb 2014?
Thanks Indeed

Just to correct, the residential requirement citizenship is not 6 years, but 5 years including last 12 months on ILR. However for normal work route applicants this means total 6 years of stay.
So if you want to apply on 22/2/2014, ensure that you were physically present in the UK 5 years prior to that date.
