Its a common problem and most banks open accounts with at least 6 weeks visa in hand. I would suggest you to leave pick and choose OR contacting them at phone because you will be delayed even more and hard to get any positive response at the end.
Try almost every other bank and go to HSBC first. Dont mention anything about your visa status, expiry unless they dont ask.

You don't need it for your initial application, if that's what you mean.
These days banks are rather strict about opening business accounts so you might have to wait until after you have received your visa.

HSBC just oral questions about my business and credit worthiness/ bills/bank statement. No question of visa asked. Dont know if they ask now.

I had been in the same boat.

Even HSBC will ask you a Visa for sure.

Only Barclays will open a Business account on your licence or provisional licence.

I hv applied on 21st FEb, and still don't hv a business account due to this problems, awaiting a decision from Barclays yet. It will take hell of time.

So, you can still proceed with the current papers and see if Barclays opens a business account for you meanwhile, so that you can prove the tradings in case asked from the case worker.

From my experience, don't waste your time in banks , opening a business account takes time and tell them first that you got a short term Visa, else you will end up wasting ur time and they will refuse you at the last moments as it is a criteria for them to check the visas.

Hope it helps.

LLOYDS TSB is what will solve your problem especially if you have current account with them ........................... I open business account with LLOYDS TSB and my visa was about to expire in 10 days and they didn't even ask for passport etc just a bank statement (which was Lloyds too) and Driving License don't the job and they gave me account number and sort code there and than.

so really worth trying LLOYDS TSB.

good luck

If i go to other banks , they will definatly ask for my passport which then would indicate then my visa is expiring in 3 weeks time . I dont have personal accounts with other banks apart from NATWEST

ho-ho i can share some of my experience with it, hope it helps!

I am a customer with HSBC - 7 years, they refused due to visa (2 months left).

So I went to Natwest - refused on visa

Then I went to Metrobank - refused on visa

Applied for Cash Plus Business - here they give you an account but it is Express Access (totally useless as it is restricted to £2000 balance limit and you cant do any operations apart from depositing cash up to limit). You can upgrade to TOTAL access with CashPlus - they ll give you limit of 15.000 - which is still small - you need to send them your certified copies of passports etc. Wouldnt advise it as it takes looong and also my application documents didnt event reach them in the end and got returned..

I went to Barclays, they didnt ask me enything and opened PERSONAL account. With it i applied to business, waiting. No visa Qn.

I went to LLOYDS TSB (i recommend you them highly) - they needed 1 month left on visa to open personal account (might do with 3 weeks - ask around differenct branches - they do make exclusions out of the rule). With that they will most likely open you a business, or at least sole trader.

Also, i applied to Co-operative bank (try them). didt reach final stage and hopefully will not.

So really, open barclays first - dont mention visa. Go to 10 barclays branches if need be so until they will accept you to open. Then they ll do business.

Good luck :)

praise to Lloyds - they are very personal in approcach and trying to find any solution.

I agree with you sky_rise that LLOYDS TSB are just brilliant i thought may be because i got bank account with them for last 10 years almost ........ the branch i went to open bank account they didn't even have business account manager there but i said i want to open it today if not than i am going to another bank and the bank manager rang another closest branch and arranged appointment for the same day at 4 pm and i have my sort code and account number there and than and rest of the paper work arrived in a week time.

so i will recommend people LLOYDS TSB as they not concered abt passport visas etc at all and its worth trying different branches too.

so good luck

regards

Hi all
I want to share my experience for opening business account.i called Barclays and they gave appointment after 15 days. Then immediately next day 5March i went halifax as i hve personal account with them. That lady called to business manager, she took my interview on phone, opened an account and gave me sort code n account number.Shes sent the application form after a week to sign and return back.so that i can get official bank account letter.still waiting for it.Went Barclays on 13 March,BDM said it will take 3 to 5 working days.after a week i called and come to know doc returned from the business account opening team so ll go tomorrow to see them again.Although i m Barclays customer from las t 2 years.Let's C which bank send me the account details first. Its really frustrating!!!!!!!!!
