Visa for mother

Post by khanz » Wed Mar 20, 2013 10:03 pm

Hi All,

I have ILR visa and have applied for citizenship in February 2013. My mother is widow and 66 years old. She is diabetic and has high blood pressure as well. My all three sisters are married and live with their families. My elder brother who used to live with my mum, has now settled in USA. So, my mum is alone in Pakistan. My wife got ILR in 2012 and I sent her back to Pakistan to take care of my mum and I try to visit them twice a year.

My mum visited me in UK twice (2009 and 2011) on 6 months visit visas. Now I intend to apply dependent visa for her so that she comes here permanently and I can take better care of her once she is here and my wife would also be here to take care of her.

I want to know if there are any chances of getting the dependent visa for her and if yes, then what documents I should attach with the application.

Thanks in advance for your advice and sharing your experience.

IMHO - not high.

The requirement is that she requires help with everyday tasks and that, if a family member can't provide it, then it's unaffordable.

That turns the visa into a catch 22. If you can afford to support your mother here - you can afford to pay for someone to help her. If you can't afford to pay - you can't afford to support her. In either case - you don't qualify for the visa.

I would also, humbly, suggest that (knowing people with Diabetes and High Blood Pressure) she wouldn't cross the line which I THINK UKBA have in mind when they talk about everyday help. Of couse I don't know the individual circumstance in this case.

Thanks for your reply.

If the chances are not very high then it is a risk of losing the both £1850 as fee and the future chances of getting visit visa.

So, it seems that keeping in view her last two visit visas and timely return to Pakistan each time, we should go for two years visit visa. In this way, she we would be able to spend 4 or 5 months every year in UK.

Please comment.
