British Citizenship Process

Post by vnkotak » Mon Mar 25, 2013 5:46 pm

Hi,

I got my ILR in Apr 2012, so I will be eligible for applying BC next month.

Hence, I would like to understand the steps of applying the British Citizenship and timeline to get everything done.

With what limited knowledge I have collected from here and there... I think
1. We need to apply for approval of citizenship, which takes the longest time. I guess around 3 months? Cost - Around £900
2. When it is approved, we get some approval document with which we need to apply for oath ceremony? It takes another 1 month or so? Cost - Free
3. Once we get the OATH ceremony done, we need to apply for Passport, which takes another 1 month? Cost - ??

So in all we should keep around 6 months in mind to get the end to end process done.

Can someone please explain in briefly the process? If I have said anything wrong above, can someone please clarify it.

Also, I read somewhare about NCS. Not clear here when we say that we can retain the originals. Can we retain our passport as well? As I might need to travel outside UK in June, so will I be allowed to retain my passport with NCS.

Can someone please please help me clarify my queries and help me understand the process of getting BC.

Cheers,
VK

every application is different, so not easy to get average waiting time, you could work it out from http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=80616
I applied on 8 Feb 2013, my ceremony was on 7 March and passport interview will be 6 April. so my timeline from start to finish is 2 months.
passport cost £72.50, naturalization £851 and ceremony fee is included.

thanks
1. get ILR/PR
2. pass life in the UK test(if you did`t for ILR)
3. fill AN form
4. get supporting documents
5. send it off
6. wait for approval
7. wait for invitation letter
8. book ceremony
9. attend ceremony
10. apply for passport
very important is to be patient, without it you will get paranoid.
