urgent pls - PSW to T2 general - part qualified accountant

Post by ann771 » Tue Mar 26, 2013 2:39 pm

Hi guys

I have a query on behalf of my friend. She is currently on PSW (expiring in July 2013) and planning to switch to Tier 2 (general). Initial plan was to apply as a Part Qualified accountant in the company where she has been working for one year now. After looking at the new Codes of Practice, there are a few confusions, I’d really appreciate if you could help with your valuable opinions.

Questions 1:
She is over 30 years old and will be switching from PSW to Tier 2 (general). Is she eligible to apply as a ‘new entrant’ or ‘experienced worker’? (I saw a discussions on this board but no specific answer)

Question 2:
Her SOC code is 2421. In the codes of practice valid until 5 April 2013, there are job titles for part qualified accountants. There is nothing as such in the new Codes of Practice valid from 6 April 2013. I have both listed below which will make things clear to you.

2421 Job titles – Codes of Practice until 5 April 2013
ACCA Part 1 qualified £14,000
• ACCA Part 2 qualified £17,000
• ACCA Part 3 qualified £20,000
• Trainee in public practice, Foundation £13,000
• Trainee in public practice, Advanced £16,000
• Newly fully qualified £27,000
• Fully qualified with post-qualification experience £33,000

2421 Job titles – Codes of Practice from 6 April 2013
• Accountant (qualified)
• Auditor (qualified)
• Chartered accountant
• Company accountant
• Cost accountant (qualified)
• Financial controller (qualified)
• Management accountant (qualified)
Salary rates: New entrant: £20,300 / Experienced: £23,600

My friend is a part 2 qualified accountant, and she was planning to apply for Tier 2 as ‘ACCA Part 2 qualified’ with 20k salary. according to the new codes of practice, what would be the relevant job title for her? I see there is no option mentioning part qualification in the new codes of practice for accountants, does that mean she can not apply using 2421 until she is fully qualified (pass all her ACCA exams and gather 3 years experience)?

Many thanks for your help.

Regards

I am also in the same situation but what I think if you put your job title as accountant it should be ok...part qualified represents the qualification. you get accountants on qualified based on experience(QBE) as well. Thats what I think and plan to do.

Others pls comment

Ann pls keep us updated with your application

Thanks Ramya, it is not clear and I would not take the risk to make an application based on a guess. My concern is if they had a nice breakdown of job titles in the old codes of practice, why is it not that clear in the new one! It will be very difficult for my friend and I'm sure for many more applicants on similar area if the HO discontinue part qualified accountants from tier 2.
It will be very helpful if someone can help us on these queries please. Thanks.
