claiming council tax benefit and effect on ILR

Post by GigaByte » Tue Apr 02, 2013 12:18 pm

Dear Friends

I am due for my ILR soon. Currently I am on Tier 1 (General) which has a limitation - "No recourese to public funds". But I am a full time student as well. Last year I had 15-20% off my council tax as a student benefit. This year also I want to apply for this benefit but worried that - Will this affect my upcoming ILR application? Could I continue claiming this benefit? if Not, Do I need to do anything to revert the benefit I claimed last year so that it does not affect my ILR application in the future?
I am not on any other benefits.
Please advise.

Yes it will effect your application if you will be applying ILR on the basis of Tier 1. It is not worth taking risk for a few hundred pounds. Better to pay off your previous as well.

This is NOT what is meant by council tax benefit. This is a council tax discount or exemption and is NOT recourse to public funds. It is not a means tested benefit, like council tax benefit is. You're fine...

Student council tax exemption or discount is not a benefit. So no issues.
