ILR and time outside UK

How long somebody with an ILR can stay outside UK ? To my knowledge it is two years , after that ILR expires , is this true?
Second question , to transfer an old ILR stamp from expired passport to a biometric ILR card , how long does it take ?

Yes its maximum of 2 years.
No need to apply new ILR when passport expires just carry both (old+new) passport.
