Which SOC Code to Choose

Post by ILR05 » Sat Apr 06, 2013 3:27 pm

I have been issued WP in 2008 and subsequently issued Tier2 (ICT) in 2010. My employer has assigned SOC Code 2131 and job title as Project Manager in 2010. My job responsibility is same from last 5 years. I am continuously doing project manager role since 2008. As per section J of SOC 2000, the minimum salary defined as £39000. My salary is well above defined salary.

Question1:- Which SOC code should I mention in employer letter? According to SOC 2000 or SOC 2010?

Question2: if SOC 2010 will be referred, which SOC Code should be chosen? I am asking this question since Code 2131 is not available in SOC 2010

On further analysis I found there is table 8 in appendix J.
It has details about transition from SOC 2000 to SOC 2010 for applicants continuing to work in the same occupation.
According to this mapping table SOC code 2131 is mapped to SOC code 2139.
Should I mention 2139 as my SOC Code? The only problem is in SOC code 2139 there is no mention of role project manager title?
I did one more search according to Project manager role and I found SOC Code 2134 is very closely matching with my role. As per this analysis should I mention SOC Code 2134?

Dear members please guide which SOC code is relevant for me?

You should use the SOC code which is the exact match or nearest match to your Job Description and List of Duties. You must follow the SOC 2010. from 06/04.And your slary has to be above the SOC salary . Now you have been in your job for 5 years,so Experienced person's salary would be applicable to you. Great you have found the SOC Codes, because some have been finding it difficult.

Dear DK2011,

2134 IT project and programme managers
IT project manager
Experienced worker: £36,400

Confirmed.

Thanks for your response.

On what basis you are saying it is confirmed? It will be good if you could elaborate.

Kevin,

I am really thankful to your suggestions. I conclude from your message I must mention SOC code based on 2010 not on basis of SOC 2000. Please reciprocate.

Thanks

[quote="ILR05"]Thanks Kevin24,

DK2011,

I said on below basis.

--------------------------------------------------------------------
http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/polic ... appendixj/

Table 8: Transition from SOC 2000 to SOC 2010 for applicants continuing to work in the same occupation.

SOC2000
2131 IT strategy and planning professionals
NQF 6
SOC2010
2139 Information technology and telecommunications professionals not elsewhere classified
NQF 6
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

It says SOC 2131 2000 maps to 2139 SOC2010 But for the people who can't classify themselves anywhere.

2134 says it is for the IT project and programme manager and you said you are performing role of project manager.

--------------------------The below comment is posted by you--------------

(I did one more search according to Project manager role and I found SOC Code 2134 is very closely matching with my role. As per this analysis should I mention SOC Code 2134? )

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You said you are able to classify yourself under 2134. I just read your text and appendixj and then commented. Otherwise , how can someone else classify SOC code for someone else without knowing job profile.

Please , let me know if you have further query . I guess Whoever is in this forum has the best intention to help each other.

I totally agree. We help each other. Must make our thinking easier and smoother to comment. As I commented earlier SOC Code and Job Description/List Of Duties, should have an exact match or the nearest match.

This forum is alive based on help ethics.

I am going by Kevin logic. If job responsibilities are matching then that SOC code should be mentioned.
Rest all logic is less important. Like in table8 it is mentioned that 2131 code is mapped with code 2139. However job responsibility of 2131-Project Manager is closed to 2134.

I believe case worker will buy this logic.

That's fine. 'Confirmed' word from my side was wrong. I've corrected the post.
