I have the following issue and would welcome any advise! I am a Russian citizen, I am currently a resident of UK – I live and work here under Tier 2 Long Term Staff Migrant visa. I have recently lost my passport (with my visa, which is a sticker, not a plastic card) while being in the UK. I have not yet cancelled my passport and visa because I have a little hope that I can get it back. However, the probability is low.
Thus I need to get a new passport and a new visa. I consider the following possibilities:
1) Issue a new passport in UK (with Russian embassy) and then apply for a new visa from the UK. However, issuing a new passport would take not less then 3-4 months. Meanwhile, I need to travel at least once to Russia for family and job reasons. may be there is some possibility to have some kind of a temporary visa ( i have all the documents including copy of my lost passport with visa)
2) Go to Russia, issue a new passport (within 1-2 weeks) and then apply for a transfer of a visa into my new passport in Russia (documents that I have are: photocopy of previous passport and a Certificate of Registration in UK (with my photo, address, lost passport data and visa data)). The question is: how much time it would take to obtain visa while in Russia and what set of documents I will need. The most important question here is how much time it would take to get a replacement of visa, as this is very critical.
3) Go to Russia, issue a new passport, then go to the UK and get a replacement of my visa there. I believe that this is actually impossible (to entry UK without a visa in my passport, having only photocopy of previous visa, a new passport and a Certificate of Registration), but could you please confirm, may be it is possible (as it would be clearly a preferable option for me)
or if anyone can think of any other options, I would be very happy to see any suggestions..
