What Kind of Visa am I Eligible For?

Help! I am a U.S. citizen and I am hoping to spend a year (or more) in the UK, starting this August 1st. I am going to be a student from early september through late December so I am eligible for the Tier 4 Student Visa during that period. I want to stay on through June and I am not a "valued worker" and am not a dependent of anyone in the UK. Does anyone know how I can achieve this? Please respond ASAP if anyone has any suggestions. Thank you much!
