EEA National applying for British Citizenship

HI All,

My husband a french national entered the Uk in 2005.
He studied till Mar 2007.
Started work in Mar 2007 as Business analyst in a Bank.
Has been working continuously till date.
Now he wishes to apply fr British Citizenship.

1) Are the following documents sufficient?

- Salary Slips/ P45's /P60's from Mar 2007 till date.
- His EEA /French Passport

2) What are the timelines in actual?

If he doesn't have confirmation of permanent residency (issued on a separate card) then to show that he acquired PR automatically in March 2012 and that he has held PR for one year after, till March 2013, he may supply:

1. P60s (P45s where necessary) from April 2007 - April 2013. He may also wish to include his payslip for March 2007 when he began exercising treaty rights as a worker and April 2013 (if available at the time of application).

2. His French passport covering his 6-year residential qualifying period in the UK.

In addition to ensuring that he hasn't exceeded the quota for absences from the UK in the 5 years leading to PR and one year under PR, he must be sure that he was not out of the UK on the day that the UKBA receives his naturalisation application. So, if he is applying on 11th April then he must have been physically present in the UK on 12th April 2007.

The UKBA will first apply EU law to ascertain that he attained PR in Mar 2012 before proceeding to process his naturalisation application under UK law.

No he doesnt have the PR confirmation(on a spearate card).
He has all the documents that you mentioned and i think we are ready to go!

He has not been absent from UK for more than a week at a time.
He has no travel plans scheduled till sept 2013.

What are the timelines like? How long does it take to receive the BC?

He will also need to pass Life in the UK test.

Is he aware that by becoming British, he won't be able to make use of the EEA regulations in future (to sponsor family members for example). He will be subject to the more strict UK immigration rules.

If he has passed the LIUK test as Jambo mentioned then sounds like he is ready to go!

Timelines vary but at present seem to be as little as one month and as much as 7 months.

OH! so passing the LIUK test is a prerequisite?
Okay..i'l look into the formalities of how to get about that.

As I said on your other thread, your husband doesn't need to become BC for you to apply (in case that is the reason for his application). You can apply based on your own residency.

No Jambo its not for my benefit. He wishes to apply for the BC.
