What benefits I'm entitled to

Post by cbx102 » Mon Apr 15, 2013 12:42 pm

Hello

I am British citizen and my wife is on spouse visa until 2014. She is 2 months pregnant now. I do work full time and my wife does not work.

I am just wondering, what benefit I'm entitled to?

Appreciate any info.

Cheers

You can claim child benefit and tax credits subject to your income once the child is born. Most other benefits are not available to those working full time. If you get tax credits you may be and to get the sure start maternity grant subject to having no other children though, you'd have to look into that as it's constantly changing. You may want to look into having some paternity leave from work.

the surestart maternity grant has a qualifyig factor of "no other children under 16" (im not sure why this is exactly) ? - its not like you would keep a cot for 16 years, or a pram that long or the baby grows ETC...

we actually gave most of our baby clothes away to others when our daughter didnt need them...

Housig benefit, is a possibility... whether you will get any i dontknow... worth a shot... remember to inform them if your wife has no recourse... - although it generally makes no difference... its better to let them know that way it cant go against your wifes ILR later on - just remember to get proof of whatever you send. :)

obviously though, housing benefit depends on your rent, the local authority rates in your area... what your entitled to (note: 2 bed once the baby is born, 1 bed place if just yourself and wife....

Try http://www.entitledto.co.uk/ though, you must remember that your spouse is subject to immigration control so certain means tested benefits such as Housing Benefit would be affected by this. Like I said, due to your income, it's unlikely you would get any of the benefits but for what I had already mentioned - Child Benefit and Tax Credits.
