registering to vote in UK - being a immigrant

Post by voteinuk » Mon Apr 15, 2013 3:19 pm

I'm here in UK for past around 2 years ( and got visa approved for another 2 years ) in Tier 2 category. Am I allowed to register to vote in UK, and I'm an Indian citizen which is there in the list of allowed in commonwealth countries.

Got confused about whether I'm allowed or not because http://www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/who_can_re ... _vote.aspx - It doesn't say any minimum period of stay to qualify, but guardian (although it seems a bit old ) says I've to be here for a minimum of 3 years. http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree ... ot-british

Does anybody know whether I'm allowed to ? I've emailed borough council but not sure whether I'll receive a response.

I'm trying to register mainly to get credit score if that helps.

Do not believe the newspaper take what the electoral registration information says.

Yes, as the reference here states you are eligible to vote. There is no qualifying period for this, only that you are a resident in the UK with valid LTR. So technically you would have been eligible to register to vote from the day you first entered the UK on your T2 EC.
