Are you going together? If yes, you should not stay out of UK more than 6 months in any one year.
If the EEA national should stay for more than 6 months, there should be a tangible reason like education, illness, pregnancy etc. You been absent from the UK for a longer period can have an effect on the RC holder because it will be like you have left the country.
Hope it makes sense.

Who is the EU national and who is the non-EU? Presumably she is the non-EU.

In general. you can be absent for up to six months per year without affecting your residence. The non-EU's residence is dependent on the EU's residence.

It is possible that you have Permanent residence. The non-EU can be out of the country for as long as they want, but if they wish to apply for permanent residence in their own right, they generally need to live in the UK for six months per twelve months.
