English requirement

Post by Haidi5 » Sun Apr 21, 2013 9:02 am

Hi
Me and my wife recently have got ILR.
When I got HSMP back in 2007 August,I sent IELTS test result to satisfy my English requirement. Now that IELTS has expired.
Do I still need to do there new English test or my previous IELTS will still count?

Secondly my wife came in to this country in Jan 2010 on dependant visa.
She has now got ILR after 3 years. For her eligibility for citizenship, will it be after 1 year of ILR or she still need to complete full 5 year of residency which will make it 2 years after ILR ?

1. Do you mean for naturalisation?

2. Your wife must meet the standard requirements which includes 12 months ILR and 5 years residency unless married to a bc. However, if you become a bc then your wife can naturalise once she meets the spouse standard requirements which includes 3 years residency.

Thanks a lot Amber.
Seems that my wife have to wait for 2 years to complete her BC period after ILR.
Yes my first question is related to myself to become BC.
As I provided ILETS when I applied for HSMP.
But it's expired now.

If you become a BC then she may be able to apply sooner providing she meets the spousal requirements as above. See here for the English Language requirements which are also changing in October 2013.
