Returning to UK after long gap -- need suggestion

Post by r_revelli » Mon Apr 22, 2013 5:15 pm

Hi Friends,

I got my ILR in May 2012. In Sep 2013 I have come to India due to my mother's ill health and lived here since then. Unfortunately my mother passed away recently. Now I am planning to come back to UK. I have 2 questions.

1. As I have a gap of 9 months, will there be any problem if I return to UK? I mean how does the UKBA treat this kind of situations? What should I be prepared with to answer the questions at airport.

2. How does this impact my eligibility for British Citizenship? Can I apply after 1 year from the date I land in UK?

Any help in this regard is highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Ramesh

I think you mean 2012.

1. No, you can be out the country up to 2 years see here for the rules on returning residents

2. You need to meet the standard requirements including absences (see heading absences) or the spousal/civil p requirements if married/civil p to a bc (again see absences).

Yes, it was 2012. My mistake.

Thank you very much for your valuable information. That clarifies my queries.
