Application for Schengen Visa without Unabridged Marriage Ce

Post by jessie179 » Tue Apr 23, 2013 9:58 pm

Hi

I posted a few days but decided to start a new thread instead because I had my appointment today at the Maltese Embassy but we were sent away due to us not having an Unabridged Marriage Certificate.

Back in 2010 we applied via an agency for a Schengen Visa. They applied via the French Embassy and the only paperwork I had to provide was original Passport of myself (South African) which included my ILR, husbands passport (British), Marriage Document(Computerized South African Paper as wedding took place in SA) and photocopies of all of it and of course £50 cheque which went to the agency for service fees as my visa with the embassy was free.

This agency no longer exist ( I think as cannot seem to get hold of them) and fast forward today my husband and I went to the Maltese Embassy but they refused to process our application form because we (A) did not have the Unabridged Marriage Certificate (B) Travel Insurance. The only option they gave us was to pay £52 and apply as a person in my own right but still show employment documents (I'm unemployed), proof of income, etc of myself and my husband.

I have tried going to the South African Embassy to get help but they literally just closed at the same time that I finished at the Maltese Embassy and they haven't answered their phones once. From Google I have ascertain that it will take weeks if not months before I can get this certificate.

Would I be able to apply for my visa in a different way as our tickets have been booked already and we are flying on the 24th May.

Please advice urgently needed so that I can contact the relevant departments in the morning.
Thanks

I will lock your previous thread so don't worry about the new one.

Insurance is simply not required. An EU country can ask for a marriage certificate to be authenticated if it is in a language they don't understand and / or they doubt its veracity.

Did you state that you had ILR? Does that not mention that you are a family member?
