Query after acquiring PR

Good Afternoon,

I have a 10 yr PR card stamped on my passport as a unmarried partner of an EU national with a renewal date after 10 years. I am non EU. We were in a durable relationship. We split up sometime back and on inquiring if i need to apply for ROR , I was informed that my status is independent of my ex as I have a PR already.

However, now I am in love with a British Citizen and we are getting married this yr. Am I going to have issues at immigration while travelling ? We are travelling immediately after I get married for a short family trip as I am not with my ex anymore. I know I am independent of my ex and by law the only way to lose pr is my absence in the country for a certain period or if if I do something majorly damaging. However, not all officials sitting at the desk are very clear of the EU rules and I just want to know if I should be able to go through the British que like I have been asked to by one official before and would I be queried on my ex as I am not with him anymore and I just need peace of mind. If you have already gained PR then its a settled status under EU law which means you no longer depend on the activities of EEA national. You are free to use and enjoy your own rights.

Yes you can.

If asked "how did you get this?" (If questions are asked, this one seems popular. Sounds more like a gossip question than anything else). For that you can answer "I applied for it" or "I have lived for more than 5 years in the UK under the EEA regulations" or "the UKBA gave it to me". You don't really need to explain the ex thing to the IO.

The IO are doing their jobs but you should also be aware of your right to enter and live in the UK.

Hey Jumbo and sheraz, what about RC holders when they are coming back to UK with out their EU partner from a non country when they are asked how did i get my RC? do i Need to explain who my ex is where she is from and how she is exercising her rights ?

The IO can always ask questions and you can chose what information to answer. I always say that stupid questions deserve stupid answers. Just remember to be polite even if don't give the answer he was expecting. Naturally some people would feel less confident when dealing with officials but it doesn't need to be an interrogation. You can turn it to a conversion.

Any suspicious behavior/priorly held complaint in system may lead for interrogation.
