hi,

Once i get my british passport and before i surrender i my indian passport (as a prerequisite for applying for OCI) can i apply for an Indian tourist visa on my british passport. Once i get the visa, i will then apply for the OCI. This way, at no time am i unable to travel to India - i assume that within the six month validity of the visa, i will get the OCI

To apply visit via on your new British passport, very first you have to surrender your Indian passport. Its a pre-requisite for visa as well. Rest is ok as you said.

I have got visa first and then OCI in process, and been to Idnia in the meanwhile on visa on British passport.
