Switching from Tier 5 to Ancestry

Post by cdiz » Mon Apr 29, 2013 9:18 pm

Hi,

I'm an Australian currently living and working in the UK on a Tier 5 Youth Mobility Scheme visa, which expires February 2013.

I have a new job which requires me to be on an Ancestry visa, for which I am eligible. I'm happy to return to Australia to apply for this, but want to make sure I'm actually able to do that! I know you can't switch from Tier 5 to another category within the UK, but hoping someone can confirm that I'll be able to switch categories from my home country?

Thanks!

If you meet the requirements for an ancestry visa there's nothing to stop you returning to Australia and applying for one. Technically you wouldn't be switching categories, you'd be leaving the UK and applying for a new visa.
