You will have to get a letter from the concern University/College from where your wife has obtained MBBS on their letter head, that the "medium of Instruction" for MBBS was English.knowledge_seeker wrote:Hello there,
I am on ILR. My spouse is going to apply as ILR dependent/spouse visa (VAF4a) this month. She has done a 6 years MBBS from Pakistan. The mode of study during MBBS was English. I believe she is exempt from English language requirement on this basis. My question is, is it our responsibility to provide British Embassy with UK NARIC equivalent certificate along with the visa application or do we just submit her degree and transcript with the application that British Embassy can verify themselves?
Many thanks
It must be deemed by UK NARIC to meet the recognised standard of a Bachelor's degree. Either it is on their list of Universities and you have the transcript and a letter to state it was English taught or you have a certificate from NARIC.knowledge_seeker wrote:Hello there,

As per Amber: You must get UK NARIC certificate and they will not issue it without Uni's Letter of Medium of Instruction.knowledge_seeker wrote:Thanks for your reply. Ok if we get a certificate from the University that it the degree was taught in English, we don't need to contact UK Naric? And who will verify from UK Naric the degree was Bachelor's equivalent? Embassy itself?
The applicant needs to prove their proficiency in English UK Embassy only accepts UK NARIC's certificate which writes' The course taught meets or exceeds Level A1 or B1.knowledge_seeker wrote:I am confused now. Forgive my ignorance. Do we have to go through UK Naric or can the embassy verify it from UK naric? My understanding is that UK Naric issues certificate to verify whether degree XYZ is equivalent to XYZ or not. If we go through UK Naric, will they provide us English Language certificate as well or just Equivalence certificate?
That would do, I had the same for my wife.knowledge_seeker wrote:Unfortunately UK NARIC is only able to assess against CEFR level C1 and the English Language Assessment will not provide information on CEFR levels that are lower or higher. So where do we stand now?
The way UK NARIC works is; they will never write down that English Language requirement for the foreign degree is met.knowledge_seeker wrote:Don't they have to take A1 test for ILR spouse? I think A1 is lower than C1. UK NARIC has clearly stated they won't be able to assess anything of lower level or higher to C1.
However you can apply for comparability of the degree:"Language requirement of the degree does not meet CEFR Level C1".
Attach letter of instruction of medium from the foreign university with it.(along with Degree and Transcripts).Assessment: Degree is considered comparable to British Bachelor (Ordinary) Degree standard.
