Section 3. Good Character Requirement

Post by Libroid » Thu May 02, 2013 11:52 pm

I’m applying for my British citizenship through Nationality Checking Service on 17th of May 2013 and I have some questions regarding filling in application form AN, especially page 9 (Section 3. Good Character Requirement), so would appreciate your help and guidance.

Question 3.2.
I worked last 5 years in a staff position until 15/03/2013 and starting from 18/03/2013 I’m working as a contractor. I registered limited company, so basically I’m director of my own company.
Am I right to say on Question 3.2 I should tick “Director” box only? Do I need to tick “Self-employed” box as well?
If I apply as a director and in case I do not tick “self-employed” box, do I still need to provide self-assessment statement of account?
As I’m working as a contractor for very short period of time, self assessment will not be available till November 2013. However my accountant suggested to include all P60s for last 5 years and as well as my last P45 form to prove that I do not have any outstanding tax obligations in front of HMRC.
Will Home office accept my P60s and P45 instead of self-assessment statement, should this still be required?

Question 3.5.
Regarding tax office reference number. Do I need to put my current tax ref (limited company) or include previous staff tax ref number as well? My current tax ref number issued just 2 months ago and does not reflect much financial activity.

Thanks again and looking forward to hear your answers.

If you are a director of a company them technically you're an employee of that company not self-employed. However, you could also do self-employed work for the company if you're registered as such.

The UKBA have access to the HMRC so they can check should any issues arise. Include the extra information as it will do no harm if you paid your taxes. You can put both tax reference numbers down just put x and y.
