I know my non-EU wife with ILR can travel to Europe without a SChengen Visa but under this directive you can get a Schengen Visa for free. My question is how long does the Schengen visa in this circumstance last fr? Is it still 3 months.

Basically we want to go on a few holidays in Europe over the next year or so, so would prefer not to have to get her a visa everytime.

Any tips?

It is often issued for three months, but may be longer.

And some member states seem to also issue it for exactly the length of your journey. (I think they want you to come back and apply more often!)
