Benefits for Surinder Singh entries to UK

Post by Stuart Robinson » Sat May 11, 2013 4:18 am

Hello all,

Before I go ahead and start asking all my questions, I would like to know I am in the right area.

Myself is UK national.
My wife is Chinese.
We plan to arrive in UK via Surinder Singh, some time in November 2013.

I want to firstly ask about housing benefit, and the joining council tax benefit, and then other benefits, until we both get jobs and no longer need benefits.

Am I in the right place?

Stuart.

In order to claim benefits as an eea national/family member you must have the right to reside, though, for students and those self-sufficient you can't be an unreasonable burden on the state. If you have the right to reside, you'll be able to claim benefits. If your case I expect you have the right to reside (for benefits) (and your spouse) as a permanent resident and when you're job seeking, employed and self-employed.
