Self Employed - tax and naturalisation

Post by krudes » Thu May 16, 2013 12:02 am

Hello everyone,

I have a question about self employment and sending the statment of account to the HO.

I started working as self employed Nov. 2011 and for that tax year between nov 2011 to apr. 2012 I didn't earn enough to pay any tax though I was paying NI contributions. I earned enough to pay tax between apr. 2012 to april 2013 however I still haven't paid it since I have time till the end of the year.

I'm about to apply for BC as the spouse of a BC, but my statement of account shows I haven't paid anything yet, would this be to my disadvantage? Does income count for anything during BC applications?

Should I postpone my application till I pay some taxes that I can show in my statement of account?

Thanks alot in advance for any guidance given.

See 8.5.1.

Have you been on a spouse visa before ILR? Self employed SA is only required for certain immigration categories (mainly HSMP/Tier-1). Not for people on family routes.

Thanks for your reply Jambo,

I was on a student visa at 2009 then spousal further leave to remain 2010, ILR 2012. So do I not have to put my statement of account, if so what should I add to my application as proof of my self employment? A letter from my accountant perhaps? Asking HMRC to give me a confirmation letter? or should I add nothing? I'm a little bit confused :)

Thanks

Assuming you were on spouse visa (as your spouse is BC), then nothing is required in terms of evidence of self employment.

Should I just put self employed in the appropriate section and then provide nothing?
