Marraige to a UK citizen

Post by ashigri » Thu May 16, 2013 7:11 pm

Hi
I am in the US on a H-1B visa. I am planning to get married to a girl in the coming months who is a UK citizen and lives in the UK. The wedding will be held in the UK. After the wedding she plans to get a H-4 visa and move to the US with me.

Since I do not plan on staying in the UK for more than a month or so do I still need to get a marriage visa to go to the UK and get married to her or can I get married on a visitor's visa as well?
Will either be a problem for her in getting the H-4 visa?

Also one of the main problems is that will it be more likely that I will be granted a marriage visa than a visitor's visa from the US if I am a Pakistani national?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Thank you!!

You must apply for a marriage-visit visa. It's not permitted to enter the UK on a general visit visa if there is a pre-meditated intention to marry. Showing that, after the marriage, she intends to apply for residence in the USA will be an important factor in the decision for the visa to be granted.
