Beginning Spouse immigration procedure...

Post by Leonard Hatred » Tue May 21, 2013 11:01 pm

Hello. I am a UK citizen, got married to my American fiancee in Michigan 3 weeks ago. I am now back in the UK. She has just completed the I130 form.

Has anyone any idea of a timeframe until this should all be completed? I think this is as straightforward a case as there can be because we can easily show it's a genuine and legitimate relationship etc...what happens now?

Any advice would be appreciated.

I-130 takes few months to approve ..You will not hear back from them until any RFE or approval. Please have email notification or mobile notification added to USCIS, so that you will know right away if anything is happening with your case.Once you got approval of your I-130, Now the case is moved to NVC for further processing. you should get yr police clearance cert . Also try to gather all required documents like original Marriage certificate, Birth Certificate. You will have to send copies to NVC.

Once uscis process finished, they will send yr case to American embassy london to process and invite you for an interview.(they will ask you to do full medical and bring with all yr original documents on the interview),if you got the administrative processing on the interview(hopefully not..if you got lucky). You need to know that Administrative Processing = background check. It could take months or years.

Get familiar with DS260 and Affidavit of support forms. ask yr wife to get her Tax transcript from IRS and have these documents ready so that you don't have to wait.(you need these documents along with yr other original document for yr interview)

Hope you get it soon.
