ILr and naturalisation

Post by ck4137 » Fri Feb 09, 2007 7:15 am

I arrived in the uk in Jan 1999 as an asylum seeker.I was granted ILR in Mar 2004 by one-off exercise. In those three years[between 2004 and 2007],I just worked for seven months.Yesterday my friend told me I can apply for naturalisation in Mar 2009 after two more years and also I need to supply evidence of lawful residence like letters from employers,or letters from other goverment deparments indicating my presence in the uk.Because I didn't claim any benefits,I can't get any letter from goverment during the relevent period. After i got ILR,I have never been away from the uk.can anybody tell me Why I need to supply evidence of lawful residence after I got permant residence?or my friend's statement is not true?Help,help......please!

For how long have you been a continuous resident in the UK? Are you the spouse of a British citizen? Are you an EU citizen?

He might also want to clarify:

- the exact circumstances of his arrival in the UK and how long it was before he claimed asylum; and
- what exactly he was doing when he was neither working nor claiming benefits.
