Passport for my grandson...

Post by Cruella » Thu May 30, 2013 3:10 pm

My son was born in Zimbabwe but has a British passport through me. He now has a son of his own who was born in Zimbabwe. Does he need to register his son and can he put him on his (my sons) British passport or does he have to go on his mothers passport?

Many thanks

Your grandson is not British. For children born outside the UK, the line only descends on generation so that stopped with your son. If your son moves to the UK he can sponsor your grandchild's settlement visa, and after a mandatory period of years of residence the child may apply for British Citizenship.

You made no mention that your son had lived in the UK. Is that the case? Otherwise my link rather than yours is the appropriate one.

Yes, however I had no idea that him living in the UK would carry any weight. Thanks for your response anyhow :D
