Tourist Visa + Spouse Visa

Post by Mr_Q » Thu May 30, 2013 6:14 pm

Hey,

Somebody told me that if my partner-to-be has a tourist visa which she is using to visit me on, she must wait for that to expire before she can apply for her spouse visa. Is there any truth to this?

I thought it was just prohibited to be in the UK on a tourist visa while applying for a spouse visa.

As long as she applies from her home country or country of resident, she will be fine! If she applies in-country with a visit visa, it will most probably fail (According to the published guidance). She does not have to wait till the tourist visa expires before she can apply! They will automatically cancel the visit visa and issue the spouse if the application is successful!

Hope this helps!

When we think we are ready and have all the correct paperwork etc. Do we apply over the home office website and pay the fee straight away?

What about appointment times, are we allocated a random one and who goes? With me being in the UK it is tricky guessing all of this I need to book time off work and go over there etc etc.

Also, is it only my wife who gets interviewed?

Thank you
