TIER 1 General visa till 2015 made redundant can I claim JSA

I have been made redundant and we are a couple with 3 yr old child, can we claim any benefits i am confused on this as in Tier 1 application they asked have you claim public funds would appreciate a detail reply.

If you have not been granted ILR and still remain on a Tier 1 General visa, then No. Your visa clearly states 'No Recourse to Public Funds'.

I am sorry to hear that and it is quite stressful situation, I hope you will get a job soon. As far as Tier 1 G migrant your visa states "No recourse to public funds" , simple answer is "NO"

In UKBA document under

Public funds there are two types of JSA

Income-based jobseeker’s allowance this is public funds
contribution based jobseeker’s allowance is not mentioned in public funds


can i claim contribution based

Check this document from UKBA valid from 6th April 2013 (page 10):
"Benefits not considered as public funds under the Immigration Rules include:
 Contribution based jobseeker's allowance
 Guardian’s allowance
 Incapacity benefit
 Contribution-based employment and support allowance (ESA)
 Maternity allowance
 Retirement pension
 Statutory maternity pay
 Widow’s benefit and bereavement benefit."

Please check Whether you get contribution-based Jobseeker's Allowance will depend on your national insurance contributions. If you have been working and paying national insurance contributions within the last couple of years, you may qualify.

You can claim contribution based JSA based on whether you have paid NI in 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 tax years. I would suggest you go to your local job centre and ask for more guidance on the matter.
