Previous marriage details

Post by nehalbhagat » Wed Jun 12, 2013 2:44 pm

Hello friends,

I am planning to apply for wife’s naturalisation once I will obtain my certificate at ceremony. This is my wife’s second marriage . For her application, I know we have to provide previous partner’s details in section (1.37- 1.43) . Issue is, she does not know DOB of previous spouse and Date/ place of marriage . So shall I leave this section blank ?

Also, Do I need to provide any document to support these sections ( court judgement etc. ) ? What about if we do not disclose this information ? will HO find out from her old cancelled passport as her previous spouse’s name was mentioned in that.

Kindly advise

Thanks

I'm not sure I understand the question. Your wife was married but she doesn't know when and where she got married and she doesn't know when her previous husband was born? Didn't she attend her own wedding?

Well if she doesn't know, then she doesn't know. In that case she could leave blank fields she can't answer. She can add on page 13 that she filled in only the question she was able to answer. As she is applying based on her marriage to you, she will need to provide a marriage certificate. If she also has proof that her previous marriage was ended, she can provide that as well.

I don't see a reason not to disclose her previous marriage.

Thanks Jambo for your reply, appreciated.

So if we decide to leave all section blank, Will HO findout that from her previous passport detail ? Her new passport has mention of old passport number which can lead them to question us.

Thanks again

I didn't say leave it all blank. I said leave blank what she can't answer. Surely she would be able to provide his name, maybe his nationality and date of place of the divorce. For the rest (place of birth, DOB, date and place of marriage) she can leave blank and explain on page 13.

As I said, I don't see a reason not to disclose her previous marriage. If there are issues with her divorce and remarrying you, this should be sorted out before applying.
