Ancestry with dependent spouse - online application

Post by Jessedi » Wed Jun 12, 2013 10:42 pm

Hi there,

My sincere apologies if this has been answered elsewhere but I have searched extensively and can't find the answer I need.

I am applying for an Ancestry visa - I have all the necessary docs and am reasonably sure it will be granted. However we are not sure how to do my husband's application.

I know that he needs to apply on form VAF2 - the same one I would use, however applications here in SA have to be done online and then all the supporting docs taken to VFS. When we go into the online application it doesn't say what form it is using, just which visa option you are applying for and that is what I am not sure of.

Having selected "work outside the PBS" the likely options are:
1.)Dependents of current work permit holders
2.) UK Ancestry
3.) Dependents more than 6 months

I don't think 1 applies, as I am not a current WP holder, as for 2 - he does not have any ancestry himself, only by marriage to me, and 3 seems like it will get you VAF4 for spouses of settled persons.

I would appreciate any help with this.
Many thanks in advance
J

Another Question

Post by Jessedi » Thu Jun 13, 2013 7:04 pm

All along I have assumed that my husband will only need his passport and our marriage certificate to apply, as he will be dependent on my visa.
I just assumed he wouldn't need a copy of his birth certificate.

Is this true? Does anyone know if spouses need to include their birth certificates.
If so, will an abridged one suffice, as we don't have an unabridged for him.

I just thought I'd update this in case anyone finds it looking for answers to the same questions I had.

Eventually we selected
- Work outside the PBS
-Dependents more than 6 months
A few pages later on in the application it gives you the option to select spouse of a person with UK Ancestry.

We submitted our applications together and included all my relevant birth certificates and vault copies proving the ancestry (an aside for Saffas - apparently they are wary of "incorrect" unabridged birth certificates, I was advised to get a vault copy). We also included proof of funds and evidence of looking for work. We included proof of English ability, although I'm not sure if this is a must. We didn't include my husbands birth cert.

It took 3 weeks to process from Joburg and arrived today, approved without a problem.
