Hi there
1) yes dependants can work but not as a doctor in training or dentist.
2) what do u mean by other jobs? If its with other employer u need a cos u can't be self employed nor can you work for another employer without supplementary application which should be at the same level and pay.
3) are u in country or outside ?
Depends In country subject to ur sponsor having license and sponsorship 1 week , restricted cos takes a bit longer
Do u need to go through rlmt?

what I meant by other jobs. Let us say I have been offered to work by xyz company and they have sponsored by COS and I start working in UK. In future I would like to change jobs. is this possible to do. If yes, how easy it is to do it.

I am applying outside of UK. They are big company and they have sponsored license. I am not sure whether I have to go through rmlt.

Please advise.

You can work freely as a TIER 2 dependent for different employers.
However, you cannot switch into TIER 2 (general) even if you have a valid CoS and job offer within UK. You can do so from outside UK.

However big the company is, they have to satisfy RLMT if you are applying outside UK, unless your job is in shortage occupation list or you gonna earn more than 152,100 pounds per year in UK.

1. Apply online, it will automatically tell you what to send as supporting documents. You must also read Tier 2 policy guidance.

2. What do you mean by time taken to get your work permit approved? It has been replaced by COS a long time ago. It depends on your sponsor who is willing to offer you a job and sponsoring you. The COS can be assigned within 2 weeks if your job is on the shortage of occupation list otherwise you will have to go through the rlmt process which will take time.

I would like to know the list of documents so that I can start preparing for the same. Could you send me the link where this list mentioned ?

My employer mentioned that I have to apply for COS and only then I can apply for my work permit. I would like to know how many days it will get my work permit after COS has been approved.

I think you are totally confused between COS and work permit. There is no such thing as work permit now, COS is your work permit. Tell your employer to issue you a COS. You cannot apply for COS, it is your employer who applies. I have told you before check whether your job is on the shortage of occupation list, if it is then it becomes much easier. As soon as your employer assigns the COS tell them to email you a copy of that because you will need the COS nuimber and your sponsor number when you fill in the form online or on paper. Remember to meet salary requirements, correct SOC code for your occupation. There can be a long list of documents as it depends on how many dependents you have plus maintenance funds and English language requirements etc. Just go through the Tier 2 policy guidance it has everything.

Thanks for your clarification.

Indeed my employer is going to apply for COS. After getting the COS how much time to get my entry visa cleared. I am applying from outside of UK.

the list of documents which I can come across

-employer contract
- Evidence of English language
- original degree certificate
-evidence of immigration status
- current passport
- expire passport
- passport sized photographs
- evidence of funds

Please let me know if I there is something else which I missed.
