work in other EU state

Post by Grazka » Thu Jun 13, 2013 1:14 pm

Hi,
I'm EU living in the UK 9 years. My husband is non-EU living in the UK over 5 years. Few days ago we applied for confirnation of permanent residence. My husband has recently got job offer in Germany he would like to accept. Can he freely go and work in Germany on the bases of his PR in the UK or I have to move there with him? I cannot move with him for initial 6 months as I have work commitments. Please advise.

Interesting question. The short answer is he can not move to Germany on the basis of EU free movement law (with respect to his relationship to you) unless you are moving with him.

But, there are options.

What is your citizenship?

You could move together Germany but also continue working in the UK, commuting back and forth as needed. There is nothing which prohibits you from having two residences. (details omitted)

Your husband might also be able to get a work permit there on his own merits.
