Marriage certificate

Post by datla » Mon Jun 17, 2013 3:18 pm

Dear Board members,

I'm Indian and living in the UK on Tier 1 General visa since last 26 months and I'm recently married. I got the marriage certificate in which I have my wife's maiden name and after marriage name which will have my family name added. I would like to file her visa in next few days and would like to know if it's perfectly all right to continue all her documentation on her maiden name instead of her new name as I know for sure will create a mess of changing her name in all the documents and most importantly in her passport which is a pain. What consequences should I keep in mind having her new name appearing on the marriage certificate ?

Please suggest!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Raja

It's perfectly OK. Many women choose not to take their husband's name after marriage and there's no legal requirement in the UK to do so.

Many thanks Casa, They may not prefer to take husband's name but having it mentioned in the marriage certificate does it not conflict if she still uses her old name. Do I need to keep something in mind having her new name mentioned in the certificate. I checked with my friends but none of them changed their spouse name so was very curious to know.

Thanks again for a quick reply that was definitely a big relief! :D
