Medical Insurance for those that can't access public funds

Hello,

I have a Tier 2(General) visa. In the visa app process and on the visa itself it makes it very clear: "No access to public funds." And, this clearly included the NHS when reviewing the UK Borders Agency website.

So, my company has provided me with private medical insurance (PMI) which is a special plan that covers everything not covered by NHS. e.g.
1) GP consultations
2) Accident and Emergency Service.

Can anyone suggest an insurance firm with a policy that I can take out that would cover my
1) GP consultation
and/or
2) Accident and Emergency Services.

Obviously that second one, A and E, is the most important to me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Lucapooka! in my hand I am holding my UK Tier 2(General) visa and on it is written: "No recourse to public funds."

So that is where I am getting my information. Now, if you would be so kind, do you or anyone have information about whether a UK Tier 2 visa holder has access to public funds including the NHS.

And more importantly, can anyone tell me the name of a company that provides health insurance to Tier 2 visa holders to assist them with Accident and Emergency costs if they are in an accident?

I think you need to apprise yourself as to what is, and what is not, a Public Fund as defined.

The Department for Health has its own rules on whether people who are not ordinarily resident in the UK can receive free NHS treatment. NHS treatment does not count as public funds for the purposes of the Immigration Rules whether it is paid or unpaid.

Now, if I could ask you to try to help me by being very clear - I am just trying to understand having just moved to the UK and everything is strange and different - do you interpret the quote above as:

I, a Tier 2 (General) visa holder, am a person "not ordinarily resident in the UK." And, I may access free NHS treatment because it is not a benefit from "Public Funds."

Pardon me if I am overly careful on this but the website states that if I try to gain access to Public Funds I can lose my visa. javascript:emoticon(':shock:')

Hi Mark

To make a long story short, you can get treatment from NHS as this is not a public fund. You can register and go to GP and also in A&E. The only thing that you would need to do is that any prescription the GP gives you, you need to pay for that which is a standard rate of around £7.40 (I think).

I have been here for around 10 years and I have always had access to NHS for myself and my family and have recently got ILR.
