what is the definition of "partner" for Irish immi

Post by miamiheat » Thu Jun 20, 2013 5:44 pm

Hello,
As my girlfriend is about to apply for a short stay visa, i saw that one of the options on the drop down menu is "to join EU partner".
Very simply put what does partner mean in that context? Is it some type of contractual relationship similar to marriage? or the fact that we have a romantic/love relationship qualifies us to use that term?
Thanks for responding
Cheers

Ireland's definition of partners under EU Treaty rights is someone with who you have been in a committed relationship for at least 2 years.

Ideally they will expect you to have been living together during that time, but there is flexibility around this, and they will likely waive this as long as you spent at least a few months living together during the 2 years, or can shaow that you have met each other on a regular basis.

2 condition one which they will not compromise are:
- the relationship must have been lasting for at least 2 years
- the two people must have been physically meeting on a regular basis (ie a relationship which has strictly developed over the Internet is not acceptable)

What is your citizenship? How long have you been living together? Do you have children together, or property together, or a common home somewhere?

His details are here.

Sorry miamiheat, but as discussed in previous posts, in my opinion there is no chance your girlfriend will obtain that kind of visa (the fact that the relationship started less than 2 years ago is a showstopper).

In my view, the only option if you want her to come live with you now is a student visa - and next year she can apply for a 5 years EU Treaty Rights residence card - which is very likely to be granted if you are living together in Ireland at that time.
