Travelling to the UK Channel islands (ie Jersey) with Tier 4

Hello

I have a student visa for 9 years and heard that last year before long residence application its best not to travel outside of the UK.

Am I correct in thinking that Channel islands (Jersey, Island of White or Man) are part of the UK , so wont be counted as I actually left the UK?
