ILR or Citizenship

Post by sarasi1984 » Mon Jul 01, 2013 9:34 pm

Hi I've been in the UK for numerous years from student, post study worker and now as a spouse of a British Citizen.

I currently have Leave to Remain (Residence Permit) for two years as a spouse. This is coming to an end as we have nearly been married for two years.

I'm about to apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain using the Set(M) form. However, I just want to make sure that I can't apply straight for neutralization as a British citizen until I have Indefinite Leave to Remain... is this correct?

If this is correct how long do I need to have Indefinite Leave to Remain before I can apply for British Citizenship?

Correct. ILR is required. However, you don't need to wait after ILR (assuming you meet the spouse requirements for naturalisation) and can post your naturalisation application the moment your ILR is approved.
