Naturalisation after Change of Name

Post by naija99 » Wed Jul 03, 2013 6:42 am

A friend obtained PR two years ago, he now wishes to change his name by deed poll and then apply for naturalisation.
Trouble is when completing the form in his new name, the referees do not know him by the new name. Should he complete form in old or new name?

Change of Name

Post by naija99 » Wed Jul 03, 2013 7:17 pm

Has anyone got any ideas on this one?

Would it be an issue if he used the old name which is the one that people know him as. But then ask to have the new name on the naturalisation certificate?

Suppose your friends name was Cherry Chipmunk.
Then he decided to change his name to Dandy Lion by deed poll.
So now he can go to referee and say "Mr referee, I use to be known as Cherry Chipmunk, but I have changed my name to Dandy Lion by deed poll, and here is a copy of my deed poll.

But uttering these simple words, the referee would know that the person he knows for 3 years ie Mr Cherry Chipmunk is now known as Mr Dandy Lion.

DOH. :(
