Married to a British Citizen

Post by Magnum » Thu Jul 04, 2013 5:05 pm

Hi all,

I am currently on my Tier 1 extension and i recently got married to a British citizen on the 9th June'13.
Could anyone please tell me whether I am suppose to inform the UKBA or just carry on as normal on my Tier1 till it expires in Jan'2014 and then apply for UK citizenship on the basis of completion of 5 years of me being on Tier1 ?

Any relevant advice/note would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks
Magnum

You can stay on your current visa but you'll need to apply for ILR before qualifying for BC. As the spouse of a British Citizen you will be able to apply for BC as soon as ILR is granted.

Hi Casa,

Many thanks for your advice. Point noted, but more importantly - Do I need to notify the UKBA about my status ( single to married now) ?

I have seen the Change of Circumstances form on the UKBA website but not sure if I need to fill that or any other form to let them know ?

Any advice will be highly appreciated, as always.

Thanks :D

You don't need to notify them that you're now married as there are no changes to your current leave.
