Citizenship post ILR SET(M) after end of relationship?

Post by DaNo » Tue Jul 09, 2013 10:03 am

Hello everyone..my original post http://www.immigrationboards.com/viewto ... 781#873781 here was with regards to whether a relationship ending post ILR would affect my stay in the UK and thank you so much for answering those queries as well as pointing me in the direction of applying for a citizenship

I am in the process of getting the documents sorted for this and came across this
https://www.gov.uk/becoming-a-british-c ... -can-apply

Under checking eligibility it says
You must also have:
>lived in the UK for at least 5 years before the date of your application (unless your spouse or civil partner is a British citizen).
>had indefinite leave to stay in the UK for the last 12 months (unless your spouse or civil partner is a British citizen)

What do they mean by unless you are a spouse or a civil partner? Are the rules different in that case?

What do they mean by this? Does it mean if I I acquired my ILR as a spouse or a civil partner I will have to wait for more than 5 years?. I got my ILR after being an unmarried partner of a British citizen but he has since then ended the the relationship and is now seeing someone else. Now as mentioned before I have lived in the UK for more than 5 years (since 2006) and held the ILR for over a year.

Does acquiring ILR through an unmarried partner mean the same as a spouse or civil partner and if it does do I need to wait longer than 5 years? Please help I am confused
